“The Reason for the Season”

“The Reason for the Season”

We continue a short series written by Benedictine Sisters on what Christmas means to them. Enjoy!

By Sister Stefanie MacDonald, OSB

I am blessed to be surrounded by preschoolers every day, so Christmas retains, for me, a childlike wonder.

I can’t wait to set up the Nativity scene, to go viewing Christmas lights, to spend time with the people I love.

Keeping Advent enhances the anticipation for me. It keeps me mindful, as they say, that “Jesus is the reason for the season.”

As Advent ends – this year on December 24 – Christmas begins, and lasts till the Baptism (this year on January 8).

We continue our Christmas celebrations at the monastery throughout that time (despite the fact that most of the rest of the world has moved on).

The birth of Jesus is worth celebrating all year.

It reminds us that we, too, are children of God.

What a joyful message!
