Be the Light!

Be the Light!

The word “Lent” actually literally means Springtime, the perfect season for renewal! Here’s Week #7 in your “mini-retreat” to refresh your soul throughout Lent. Here’s a list of all of the weeks’ posts.

You are the light of the world … your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father. (Matthew 5: 14-16)

If you have ever been in total darkness, you know how scary it is. You can’t see!

Then someone lights a match and slowly your eyes adjust and you begin to see around you.

When twigs are lit from that small match and then some logs, that single flame expands to make the area around you much warmer and welcoming.

The glow of a lamp in the window invites us home.

A campfire seems to draw us in, and a fireplace beckons us to a cozy, comfortable chair.

A flashlight or a torch can lead us through darkness to a destination.

We are called to BE that light as we journey through the Passion, Death and Resurrection events of this week.

What Jesus began, we are called upon to continue. We are to become a light, a beacon, a way that others can follow.

We are to share the light of Christ, given us at Baptism.

“You are the light of the world.”

We may feel like a cooling ember, a single little burning wick, or a half-spent battery at times, but no matter how dim or brilliant our light, we are LIGHT!

Questions for Reflection …

With whom have you shared your light?

Who has been light for you?

Have there been times when you hid your light?

When have you walked in darkness?

What did it feel like to see a light in the distance?
