How Has God Commissioned You?
I was home this weekend and went to Mass at Holy Spirit Parish in Dubuque. Fr. Thilenius was giving his homily and it gave me something to ponder. He talked about how in the gospel Jesus questions Peter by asking “Do you love me ?” three times. This was the way Peter could show he still loved and believed even though the night that Jesus was arrested, Peter denied Jesus three times. Then Jesus again commissioned Peter again.
The word commissioned is the word I has caused me to reflect. We are all commissioned by God, but in different ways and for different ministries.
First, we are all commissioned for holiness. Holiness means living in humility. It means we are living out the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We do this by treating all we meet as if they are Christ and we treat the world around us as vessels of the altar.
Second, we are all commissioned for a ministry in life. We are called to serve and share those gifts and talent that have been given us by God.
Finally, we are all called to a vocation. Some people are called to live a life as a married couple and raise a family by sharing God’s love. Some are called to live a life as a single person who can give time to the community by sharing God’s love. Some are called to be a sister, brother or priest who can give time, prayer and God’s love to all those they serve.
So, how is God calling you to live out the ways God has commissioned you in your life?
