Before Sister Marianne entered the Sisters of St. Benedict in 1987 at the age of 48, she had a PhD in German and French literature, a BA in literature, and professional training in journalism. She loved academia and her position as a tenured professor at the University of Illinois. She loved writing and publishing books. Yet, something was missing from her life … and she was willing to give up what she had to to find it.
“I didn’t know what I would do if I became a Sister,” she says. “But I knew I had to become one. And I thought, ‘I will do something good.’”
Indeed, shortly after entering the community, Sr. Marianne was asked if she would like to attend Canon Law school. She happily agreed, beginning her new life in service to Catholics needing help navigating the law of the church.
