Sister Catherine (Catherine Ann) loves Benedictine monastic life for many reasons. The prayer life, the balance of activity and contemplation, and the emphasis on holy leisure are among them. She says the Benedictine value of leisure is often misunderstood. “Leisure is not work versus not-work. It’s orientation of the mind. Living in the presence of God. Being mindful. And you don’t achieve it by watching TV. A so-called ‘leisure activity’ that doesn’t re-create you isn’t leisure at all."
